“Humans seek happiness and hope. But it’s ironic that despair is what cultivates them.”
—The Promised Neverland
I’ve been thinking about this idea a lot lately. I spent so much of my life trying to avoid negative feelings, but recently I’ve learned that the best way to overcome them is to just allow them to be. They are a necessary part of life, they help you know how to orient yourself, preserve yourself, and transform yourself.
So that’s what I see in this little painting I did, based on a cloud formation I saw once in Miami Beach. Like this plucky little sailboat headed into twilight waters, it’s a sense of facing your feelings in all their complexity; shadowy horizons, flourescent peaks, and all the grey- blue ripples and mists in between.
